My Town

dscn0456.jpg

I live in the very small town of Putney, which is located on the southern tip of Vermont. The town of Putney has a population of about 2,600 people.

Although Putney is a very small town it is really quite old. This year it had its 250th anniversary. To mark this event there was a parade in the town of Putney. The parade was filled with lots of fun events, activities, and floats.

Despite its smallness,Putney has a lot of schools. It has one public elementery school, called the Putney Central School, a private elementry school called the Grammer School, a private high school called the Putney School, and one college called the Landmark College. Because there are no public high schools in Putney, unless you go to the private school, you attend the high school in Brattleboro, called Brattleboro Union High School. Shown above is a photo of the Putney School.

Putney is a very big tourist town. This is mainly because of the beautiful foliage you see here in the fall. Shown above there is a picture of the Connecticut River taken in Putney. Below is a photo showing the foliage.

Some people may think of Putney as boring and uneventful, but I would have to contradict them. Putney actually has a lot of cool things in it. For example, there is a very good horse ranch called the Mountain Heights Equestrian Club in Putney. The picture below is showing the owner competing in a horse show.

Below is another cool place in Putney. This is the "Sweet Shop" in Santa's Land.

Although the Putney Paper Mill is not the prettiest thing to have in the center of Putney, it is important too. The mill is important because it provides many jobs for the unemployed citizens of Putney.
