I decided to research Chinese theater for my presentation. I chose this, because I have always been interested in, and performed in, the performing arts of America. I thought Chinese theater would be very enjoyable to learn about, because there culture
is so different. After researching about Chinese theater for a while, I decided
to focus on Peking opera, or what is now called Bejing opera, because it looked so different from the theater we have here
in America.
When I presented my research
I chose several different categories to break it into. The categories I chose were; a short history of Peking opera, background
information on Peking opera, such as what goes on and off stage and what are the main instruments in the orchestra, costumes,
the different types of characters, the performance itself, the contrast of Peking opera with American theater, and what the
different colors on the masks that the characters wear mean.
For
my interactive piece I had pictures of four different masks that I drew, and had each person paint their own, using the colors
they felt showed their personality. Everyone seemed to enjoy this activity, because
they got to use their imagination with the colors, and how they designed their mask.
